What is BorntoBuild.org.uk?

Every now and then, I find something ‘career-related’ that really stops me in my tracks – Borntobuild.org.uk did just that a few weeks ago. I found Born to Build interesting from the start. The whole site is focused on sharing experience, with individual people telling personal career stories. Plus the whole BtB approach supports our twin career passions of exploring and learning. All this meant I had to find out more, so I got one of the very friendly people behind Born to Build to answer a few questions and tell us some more. Enjoy! 1. What is Born to...

Book Review of 'Improvise' by Fred Cook

Here is my recent review of the new career book, ‘Improvise‘ by Fred Cook. In short, I enjoyed reading this book and think it makes a refreshing addition to any careers library. Gutsy & Smart! This is a gutsy book on leadership & career development and in my opinion there should be more like it. Maybe there aren’t many CEOs with similar levels of ‘unconventional behaviour’ in their past. But I’m willing to bet there are plenty who got themselves in and out of the same kind of scrapes Fred Cook shares in this book. Although most other CEOs are ‘less...

Three Golden Career Questions

All you have to do is think of a job, profession or line of work that interests you and find a person to ask… 1. What do you like about your job? 2. How did you get started? 3. Strange really, because in many ways personal culture is more powerful and more tangible than organisational culture. Unlike corporate cultures, our personal career culture will never be ‘Under New Management’ or subject to hostile takeovers or less-than-credible 180º turns. Here are 5 simple ways to start exploring and identifying your unique career culture. 5 ways to help you question, then effectively...

CareerNook

I’m delighted to share news of the birth of another great careers destination on the web. Recently launched by Ronnie Ann, of Work Coach Café fame, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to the brand spanking new CareerNook. It’s a nook, take a look! Work Coach Café was probably my all-time favourite career related blog so it’s great to see Ronnie back with a new place made for anyone and everyone to talk about careers. I’m not going to spoil any surprises, all I wanted to say was drop over and pay Ronnie a visit sometime. I’m confident you won’t...
