An Open Letter

Every now and then I’m moved to write something that aims to be inspirational.
This is always triggered by a real-world career situation,
Sometimes my own, sometimes someone else’s…

You know what to do
You have already told me that much
Far from dumb you are clever
You know how important it is to find new work
Important right now and in the future
You also know finding work will be hard
Talking to new people about the things close to us always is
It makes us vulnerable, puts us out in the open
Other people seem to hold all the cards
It’s they who say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ and everything this means
But our knowledge and power is greater
We look for work despite knowing it will hurt along the way
We’re rejected, disappointed, cast down and cut short
Though we do it all for a reason
A reason more determined than any difficulty we meet
We know what to do in order to come through
We know all our efforts are worthwhile
We know how to face the days, weeks and months ahead
We know how to come through and get what we need
You know what to do, you have already told me that much.
